Delivering for Modoc County

Community Leader. Education Advocate. Mother of Two

Through years of community work and partnership in Modoc County, Tanja has learned that progress doesn’t happen by accident; it happens when people step up and get to work. She approaches challenges with a practical mindset, focusing on collaboration, results, and solutions that strengthen our community.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I’m excited to share that I am running for Modoc County Board of Supervisors, District 1.

For nearly a decade, Modoc County has been my home. In that time, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside many of you to strengthen our community, bringing new resources, building partnerships, and helping create opportunities for local families. Together, we’ve secured more than $2.5 million in grant funding for Modoc County, opened the Modoc College Center in Alturas to expand access to higher education and career training, and helped connect over 60% of our public school children to the CalKIDS program, putting roughly $500,000 in early college scholarships into the hands of Modoc families.

Those accomplishments weren’t achieved alone. They happened because people in this community care deeply about Modoc and are willing to work together to make it stronger.

But there is still much more to do.

Modoc County is a proud agricultural community, yet many families still struggle with limited access to fresh food, healthcare, transportation, childcare, and behavioral health services, and workforce shortages impact nearly every industry.

I’m running for the Board of Supervisors because I believe Modoc deserves leadership that listens, collaborates, and works tirelessly to bring solutions home. Our county has incredible strengths, from agriculture and natural resources to entrepreneurship, arts, and indigenous knowledge and culture. We are not a place defined by deficits. We are radically rural, resilient, and stronger when we work together.

It would be a tremendous honor to represent the residents of District 1 and continue working alongside you to build a future where every member of our community has the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you for your time, your trust, and your commitment to Modoc County.

With gratitude,

Tanja Ramming

Candidate for Modoc County Board of Supervisors, District 1

Issues that Matter to Tanja

  • I believe every family in Modoc County should have the opportunity to build a stable and prosperous life. Economic mobility means creating the conditions where hard work leads to real opportunity. That requires strong schools, access to training and education, reliable infrastructure, and community investments that help people move forward. When families can succeed here, our entire county becomes stronger.

  • Public health is about far more than healthcare — it includes the everyday conditions that shape our quality of life. Access to food, housing, education, transportation, childcare, and a healthy environment all influence the health and well-being of our community. By strengthening these systems, we improve both the health of our residents and the long-term prosperity of Modoc County.

  • Too often, a person’s future opportunities are shaped by where they grow up. I believe every child and every family in Modoc County deserves access to opportunity, regardless of zip code or circumstance. Expanding education pathways, supporting youth programs, and creating connections between schools, workforce training, and careers will help ensure the next generation can build their future right here at home.

  • Modoc County is facing a serious workforce challenge. Nearly one-third of our population is over the age of 65, while many young people leave the area in search of opportunities elsewhere. At the same time, businesses, public agencies, and community organizations struggle to fill critical positions. Addressing this challenge means investing in workforce training, creating pathways for young people to stay or return, and building a sustainable succession plan for our community.

  • Small businesses are the backbone of Modoc County’s economy. Supporting local entrepreneurs and businesses means reducing unnecessary barriers, helping connect businesses to resources and funding opportunities, and ensuring our local economy remains vibrant. When small businesses succeed, our communities grow stronger.

  • Our county has incredible strengths: agriculture, natural resources, small businesses, creativity, and a strong sense of community. The future of Modoc County depends on how well we align our traditions with innovation. By working together and embracing new ideas while respecting our rural values, we can build a future where our communities remain strong for generations to come.

  • Good government requires transparency, accountability, and open communication. Residents deserve to know how decisions are made and to have a meaningful voice in the process. I believe progress happens when communities work together — when local government listens, collaborates, and brings people to the table to solve problems collectively.
